Some times my life is like a 1960's sitcom

We found a local TV station that carries re-runs of the old sitcoms from the 60's: Green Acres, Andy Griffith Show, Carol Burnett, etc. That is when I realized, my life is a whole lot like that!

Washing the toaster

We watched Lisa Douglas (Eva Gabor) on Green Acres run her toaster through the dishwasher "because it had crumbs in it". Ironically, on the last pull from St. Joe to Hannibal, we left the kitchen faucet slightly open so the toaster, sitting in the sink for the journey, got a nice rinsing! Ha! Fortunately it still works after a little drying off.

A Senior Moment

Johnnie was running a basin of water in the bathroom, hopped in the shower and forgot to turn off the faucet. So we had a nice flood in the bathroom and kitchen floor which just meant it all got mopped and is nice and clean now.

Then, he pulled the stopper out of the bathroom sink so that would never happen again, and I promptly dropped by vial of eye drops down the sink. So we had to take the trap apart to get it out. I did not re-use the eye drops!

Lucy is my soul mate

Remember The Long, Long Trailer movie with Lucy and Ricky? First night at Twin Eagle Lake RV & Hideout we had a ferocious thunder storm. It poured, blew and made noise all night. We were all snuggled down, we thought. Until I got up to use the toilet in the middle of the night and noticed some puddles on the floor. I was only half awake and got some paper towels and wiped it up. The second time I got up, there was more water so I thought, OH know! We have a roof leak in the bathroom! So I reached up and realized the bathroom vent fan was open part way, so I fiddled with it, threw a hand towel on the floor and went back to bed.

Next morning I realized we had quite a bit of water that had pooled in the hall and under the door (the rig is not quite sitting level), so I mopped it up. Indeed the vent was still open, in fact, I may have opened it all the way in the middle of the night! Yikes!

Visiting the 'Hood

Johnnie's love for local diners led us to venture into a rather interesting neighborhood in St. Joe. We were looking for Betty's Cafe which has really good ratings. (See post about Pony Express for more about Betty's). As we were driving, it became more and more worrisome as the neighborhood changed from industrial to shabby to downright spooky! At last we emerged into a marginally better area and sure enough, there is Betty's wedged into a nook on the side of the road. The full parking lot testifies to the validity of the reviews!

What else has happened so far? We are only ten days into this trip. Ha!

  • I fell into a hole in the grass by the campsite -- am ok
  • We froze one night with no heat, then the next night we burned up. Got to get this furnace figured out.
  • Small leak under the kitchen sink, just enough to get some rags wet. Not sure what that is about but we suspect the yahoo's that worked on it didn't seal the sink properly when they reset it.
  • I dropped my Sam's Club card somewhere in the store in St. Joe. They replaced it on the spot, but sure enough, someone tried to hack my online account. Sigh!
