Ark Encounter, Williamstown, KY

Our final day of touring took us to Williamstown, KY where the Ark Encounter is located. We did not know what to expect and were totally amazed by this place.

The property is huge and includes a large visitor center with gift shop, auditorium for lectures and concerts, several restaurants, a virtual reality theatre, playground, zip lines, and of course, the life size replica of the Ark!

The Ark itself is huge! It is impossible to show in photos the enormity of the ship, which was built to the dimensions given in the book of Genesis in the Holy Bible.

Next to it, you feel like an ant!

The attention to detail, the scientific approach and thorough research that went into designing and constructing the ark is quite impressive.

One of the things I appreciate about the Ark Encounter is the approach they take. They freely admit they used creative license to design and create the details that were not specified in the scripture. They don't claim they created the way it was, only that they created one way it could have been and it works!

The selection of the different kinds of animals and how they were caged, watered, fed and cared for also showed a tremendous amount of research and collaboration with a variety of experts in many disciplines.

Animals are very well done

Food and water for all the different animals and humans was a big deal.

The quarters for the 8 humans is on the 3rd deck. Space for living, workshops, food and water were also considered in the design.

I highly recommend you go here! Next time we will be there when they open and plan to spend the whole day. It would be better to go during the middle of the week off season so the crowds will be smaller. We skipped some of the exhibits because of the crowds.

There is a sister property called the Creation Museum in Cincinnati, about 45 min. drive from the Ark Encounter. You can buy a combo ticket for both venues. We heard from others it is equally as good as the Ark, so it is on the list for next time!
