A few days at the Country Club (MO)

 Arriving after a whopping 2 hr. drive, we settled into the Country Club, well, the AOK RV Park in Country Club, MO. We are just north of St. Joseph and will use this as home base for our tours of the area.

A toast to our first day

A two hour drive was just perfect to see how the rig travels and make sure all our belongings are secure without shifting. And we didn't leave until noon which means we can get all the last minute things done at home, and leave without wondering "did I remember to turn off the coffee pot?"

Our first night was a bit chilly. I had both blankets on my bed snuggled in. When I got up, Johnnie already had the fireplace going. Perfect day for some sightseeing though!




The AOK RV Park is a very tidy, privately-owned campground. The sites are all easy to get into, full hook-ups and pretty level. The laundry room is clean, playground is well-equipped and the grass and trees are nice. WiFi is adequate. The only drawback is being so close to I-29 there is a lot of truck and traffic noise which mars what is otherwise a very ideal spot. Still, we would stay again because of the easy access to St. Joseph.

Land Between the Lakes, Kentucky: National Recreation Area and Elk & Bison Prairie

  A little geography The Land Between the Lakes is a strip of land that formed naturally between the Kentucky River on the west and the Cumberland River on the East. Once the dam was built, the Cumberland River side became Lake Barkley. It is incredibly beautiful here, and the development along the lake shores is carefully controlled so it remains a haven for wildlife. Woodland Station A person could spend a week hiking the trails through this area and visiting all the different wildlife areas. There is camping also in the NRA. Definitely something for future consideration! Outside the Woodland Station Just a few of the many trails Elk and Bison Prairie Originally this area was known for its excellent hunting which was a draw for white settlers in the 1800's. But alas, over time as more people came, the populations of elk, bison, deer, and game birds was dangerously reduced. You see all kinds of rigs

 Mostly these all speak for themselves For those who travel light If you want to discretely tuck away your travel stickers Johnnie's dream RV-- an old school bus! A Teardrop: tow with an SUV, move by hand Kitchen in the rear Airstream Basecamp It may be possible to park these anywhere but I think I might have chosen a little more scenic spot Jayco Hummingbird, 1/2 ton towable with lots of features Another option in the small, light market On the other end of the spectrum we camped with Class A motorhomes so long and large, they dwarfed our 29' 5th wheel. Many of the upscale models have 5 slide outs, and one we parked near had a slide out balcony/deck. The trailers and/or 5th wheels in that size range are all pulled by 1 ton duelies, or we saw several using commercial tractors for this.
